Abstract
1,272,516. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 16 June, 1970 [11 July, 1969; 17 Oct., 1969], No. 29059/70. Heading H2E. Substantially tubular housings 11 (see also Fig. 2, not shown) are applied to electrical connectors such as wire terminals (1) (Fig. 1, not shown) by dispensing the housings into bed member 20 wherein a housing is held against axial movement by tongue 22, supporting the terminal between arms 15 and a spring-biased arm 17 (see also Fig. 4, not shown) with its base against shoulders 16 so that it can only move axially to the right, moving bed member 20 towards the supported terminal, as shown by piston 24 so that when surface 20a pushes surface 17a of arm 17 against the bias, the terminal engages in the housing and is retained therein on retraction of member 20 by a stop (5) (Fig. 2, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 6), insertion of terminal 6 into feed station 62 on block 56 actuates a microswitch causing piston 98 to move to the left and piston 36 to move to .the right. Feed fingers 48 secured by means of block 44 to piston 36 bring terminal 6 into engagement with housing 11 supported in a shoe 97 secured to piston 98. A micro-switch actuated by piston 36 reverses the movement of the piston and the housing plus terminal is ejected from shoe 97 by contact with the edge of next housing 11a. The housing has an internal rib (13), (Fig. 2, not shown), for stabilizing the terminal therein.
