Abstract

127,242. Chapman, O. May 22. 1918, [Convention date]. Table games.-Appliances for playing games comprise a " runner " 6 connected by a cord 10 to winding-drums 1 secured at each end of a table by means of base-plates 3. The cord is guided by eyelets in short standards 8, and the fronts of the plates 3 are recessed to receive the runners. An horizontal bar 17 adjustably supported by two standards 18 may be arranged across the pitch. The runner may be in the shape of the head and shoulders of a man, and may be provided on its underside with a ball bearing to minimize friction with the table In playing a game, one player bowls a celluloid ball so as to bounce beneath the bar 17, and a batsman strikes the ball with a bat. The batsman (or a partner) then winds one of the drums 1 by means of the handles 7 and endeavours to draw the runner 6 across the table before his opponents can secure the ball and strike the runner with it. Instead of, or in addition to, the bar 17, a flat board on which the pitcher must bounce the ball, may be used. Both winding-devices may be arranged at the same end of the table. The winding-devices may be duplicated so that two runners may be moved in opposite directions.
