Abstract
1,272,299. Tool holding apparatus. SUSSEX TOOL CO. Ltd. 25 Aug., 1970 [5 June, 1969], No. 28549/69. Heading B3T. Apparatus for use on a lathe comprises a body member 1 having a hollow shank 13 which is engageable in the tailstock of the lathe, a tubular quill 4 having a rock 8 formed thereon, a pinion 7 mounted on a shaft 6 in the body member which engages the rock and is rotatable by a handle 21 to extend or retract the body member relative to the shank 13. Adjustable stop members 28 to 30 are provided on the body member circumferentially located around the axis of the pinion shaft 6 adjacent the handle boss 20 and a spring biased plunger member is provided on the boss which selectively engages the stops. A tool holder 43 is provided on the forward end of the quill 4 which comprises a tool carrier 46 which is secured to the quill end 44 by a clamp nut 45 the carrier being aligned with the quill by a pin 47 which prevents relative rotation between the quill and carrier. The tool is held in the carrier by a transverse sector portion 58 secured to the carrier by screws 60, 61.
