Abstract
1,272,122. Hydrocarbon dehydrocyclization catalysts. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 4 Aug., 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 39408/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] A non-acidic hydrocarbon dehydrocyclization catalyst comprises alumina which supports at least one Group VIII nozle metal, for example Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir or Pt, at least one additional metal having an electronegativity of from 1.6 to 2.0 and chosen from the 5th and 6th Periods of the Periodic Table, for example Ag, Cd, Hg, Im, Tl, Sn, Pb, Bi, Mo, W or Re, and optionally sodium or potassium. The catalyst may contain from 0.01 to 5 weight per cent of Group VIII noble metal, from 0.01 to 10 weight per cent of additional metal as aforesaid and from 0.05 to 1 weight per cent of sodium or potassium; the weight ratio of additional metal as aforesaid to Group VIII noble metal in the catalyst preferably is between 0.05 to 1 and 2 to 1. The catalyst may be prepared in conventional manner using materials which will not impart acidic character to the catalyst; in order to remove any acidity derived for example from the alumina, the catalyst may be subjected to steam treatment at a high temperature, for example above 200‹C in the presence of a mixture containing oxygen and water vapour: The catalyst may be regenerated by oxidative burn-off, for example at a temperature of from 350 to 420‹C. Exemplified catalyst contain rhodium and tin; platinum and tin; platinum and rhenium.
