Abstract

1432943 Regeneration of reforming catalysts SHELL INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 3 May 1973 [5 May 1972 28 Dec 1972] 21031/72 and 59790/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Catalytic conversion, particularly reforming and dehydrocyclization, of hydrocarbon feeds is carried out in the presence of hydrogen in contact with a catalyst comprising one or more platinum group metals or compounds, and optionally, one or more metals having an electronegativity of 1À6 to 2À0 or compounds thereof (i.e. Re, W, Sn, Bi, Pb, Mo, Cd, Ge, Cu, Fe, Co, Ni, Ag, Tc, Tl, Hg or In), the process being characterized by the use of a catalyst which has been regenerated when deactivated by: (i) heating at 325-475‹ C. in 0À1-2% v. O 2 until oxygen is present in the off-gas; (ii) heating to 350-525‹ C. and at least 25‹ C. above step (i) in a gas containing at least the same amount of oxygen; (iii) cooling to 100-500‹ C. and at least 25‹ C. below step (ii); and (iv) heating to 250-525‹ C. and at least 25‹ C: above step (iii) in a naphthenes-containing hydrocarbon mixture, e.g. the feed being converted, or in 0À1- 30% v. hydrogen. The specified hydrocarbon feed for reforming is a naphtha fraction boiling below 250‹ C. (e.g. range 66-210‹ C.) and the specified dehydrocyclization feed comprises C 6 -C 10 paraffins. Reaction conditions for reforming are 400-600‹ C., space velocity of 0À5-10 hr.<SP>-1</SP>, a pressure of 5-50 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and a hydrogen/feed mole ratio of 3 to 15. Reaction conditions for dehydrocyclization are 400-600‹ C., space velocity of 0À5-10 hr.<SP>-1</SP>, a pressure of 1-10 kg./ cm.<SP>2</SP> and a hydrogen/feed molar ratio of 0À5 to 5. The examples relate to reforming of naphtha feeds of specified compositions.
