Abstract
1366334 Hydrocarbon conversion catalyst UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 21 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 59290/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A process for preparing a catalyst containing a tin component in combination with a platinum group metal component on a carrier material comprises preparing an impregnating solution comprising a complex tin-platinum group metal. anionic species acidified with an aqueous halogen acid, impregnating a carrier material with the said impregnating solution, and drying and calcining the impregnated carrier material to recover a tin-platinum group metal catalyst. The impregnating solution contains divalent tin and either divalent or tetravalent platinum; it may be formed by mixing an aqueous solution of chloroplatinic acid or sodium chloroplatinate with a hydrochloric acid solution of stannous chloride. Pd, Ru, Ir, Os or Rh may be used instead of Pt. Suitable carriers are charcoal, clays, natural silicates, natural or synthetic alumina, silica, zirconia, thoria; boria, silica-alumina, silicazirconia or alumina-zirconia. Bulk density, pore diameter, pore volume and surface area values are quoted. The catalyst may be reduced in hydrogen: additional halogen may be included, e.g. by calcining in an atmosphere containing HCl.
