Abstract

1,271,925. Calcium sulphate α-hemihydrate. GIULINI G.m.b.H. GEB. 23 April, 1970 [10 May, 1969], No. 19628/70. Heading C1A. Calcium sulphate α-hemihydrate is produced by crystallization from aqueous calcium sulphate dihydrate at 105-140‹ C. in the presence of from 0À05-2À5% by weight based on the weight of dry CaSO 4 .2H 2 O of a water-soluble alkaline earth metal salt other than CaSO 4 .2H 2 O. This metal salt is preferably magnesium sulphate. Aluminium sulphate, sulphite liquor, an alkyl aryl sulphonate, a salt of a dicarboxylic acid or carboxymethyl-cellulose may also be present. Waste gypsums obtained in the recovery of phosphoric acid from calcium phosphate and sulphuric acid may be used as the starting material.
