Abstract

1,271,806. Circumcising instruments. RYMEL CORP. 20 Nov., 1969 [2 Dec., 1968], No. 56956/69. Heading A5R. An instrument for performing circumcisions consists of a clamping member 16 formed by two arms 18, 19 having a connecting latch 21, 22 at one end and connected by a hinge member 20 at their other ends and having abutting surfaces of which at least one is prefereably convex and formed with longitudinal grooves 45, each arm having a recess 46 formed on said abutting surface and which when the clamp is closed form a substantially conical recess opening at its largest diameter at one of the long edges of the abutting surfaces; and a cutting member 17 mounted adjacent to the hinge member 20 and having a knife 41. The clamp is applied to the foreskin by applying pressure to finger grips 25, 26, the arms being guided by projections 27 (28), see Fig. 6 (not shown), until the latch 21, 22 engages, the clamp being positioned so that the portion of foreskin to be removed projects from the faceof the clamp adjacent the cutting member and the glans penis is held in the recess 46. Pressure is then applied to finger grips 39, 40 to bring arms 31, 32 of cutting member 17 together, knife 41 being held close to the adjacent surface of the clamping member by a guide arm (43, 44), Fig. 3 (not shown), thus severing the foreskin by a sheering action. The cutting member is released and the clamp removed after about one minute by breaking the latch at a weakening notch 23. Fig. 9, (not shown), depicts the mounting of the cutting member 17 on the clamping member 16 by means of a sleeve 33 (34) held concentrically in spring 20 by a projection (35). With the exception of the blade the instrument is preferably made of resilient plastics material.
