Abstract
1332074 Surgical instruments W J GOULD 29 June 1971 30398/71 Heading A5R A surgical instrument comprises a first arm having a handle portion 1, a shaft portion 7 and a tip 10, an idler 13 pivotally connected by a pin 2 to the arm, a second arm having a handle 4 fixed to the idler a shank 5 pivoted to the idler by a pin 6 and slidably mating with the shank portion 7, and a tip 8 pivoted to the end of the shank 5 by a pin 3 and to the shaft portion 7 by a pin (9). On movement of the handle 4 away from the handle 1, the shank 5 is pushed towards the tip 10 of the first arm and pivots the tip 8 about the pin (9) in to the open position, Fig. 6 (not shown), and movement of the handle 4 towards the handle 1 brings the tip 8 into abutment with tip 10, Fig. 5 (not shown). The tips are provided with cutting edges to cut tissue, i.e. of the larynx or pharynx, and with concave abutting faces for removing the tissue. A stop screw 12 limits the angle through which the tip 8 may be moved.
