Abstract

1,271,556. Lubricants. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 14 Oct., 1970 [12 Nov., 1969], No. 55330/69. Headings C5F and C5G. Lubricants and fuels comprise (a) the reaction product of a boron acid or anhydride or ester thereof with the reaction product of a C 19+ hydrocarbyl mono- or di-carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof with a primary or secondary amine and (b) a fused-ring phenol or thiol. Many examples of the reactants are given, e.g. polyisobutenyl propionic and succinic acids, alkylamine, polyamines and heterocyclic amines such as N-aminoalkylpiperazines. Examples of phenols and thiols include naphthols, dihydroxynaphthalenes, naphthyl mercaptans. The lubricating oil may be mineral oil, fatty oils, oxidized mineral oils, synthetic ester oils (examples are given of di-, poly-, and complex esters) or mixtures thereof. The diesters may be mixed with polyglycols. The lubricants may also contain polybutene succinimides, polybutenes, polyacrylates, zinc dithiophosphates and diol esters.
