Thermostable polyesters of formula where n is 40 to 200 and R represents a radical of which from 70 to 100 mol. per cent correspond to the formula and from 30 to 0 mol. per cent correspond to the formula are prepared by reacting iso- and/or terephthalic acid dichloride with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dihydroxy tetraphenyl methane or a mixture of from 70 to 100 mol. per cent 4,4<SP>1</SP>.dihydroxy tetraphenyl methane and 30 to 0 mol. per cent of 2,2 - bis - (4 - hydroxyphenyl) - propane.
