Abstract

1,250,251. Aromatic polyketones. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 4 Feb., 1969 [5 Feb., 1968], No. 5925/69. Heading C3R. Novel polymers with units of formula where the phenylene radical is p-phenylene, mphenylene or mixtures thereof, are obtained by reacting equimolar amounts of dibenzo-paradioxin and (1) terephthaloyl halide or terephthalie acid, or (2) isophthaloyl halide or isophthalic acid, or (3) mixtures of (1) and (2). The reaction is carried out in the presence of a Friedel- Crafts catalyst, e.g. a mixture of hydrogen fluoride and boron trifluoride or aluminium chloride. Examples are given.
