Percussive h a n d tools; loose tools and b i t s , retaining. - A rivet-cutter comprises a cylinder 7 containing a piston 8, a head 9 threaded into the cylinder and locked by a bolt 36, a threaded sleeve 26 shrunk on the other end of the cylinder and engaged by a threaded cap 10, and a pipe 20 connected to the head 9 and having a terminal nipple 35 passing through the walls of the cap 10, sleeve 29, and cylinder 7 to lock these parts together. A tapered plug valve 11 is arranged in the head 9 and is pressed by a spring 28, which is adjusted by a nut 25. Lateral handles are secured to the head, and one of these is arranged so as to lock the cap 27 of the valve chamber. A second handle 38 is formed by a loop on a band 37 encircling the cap 10. Reciprocation of the piston is controlled by a handle 21 movable between stops, the handle turns the valve 11 so as to open the fluid-supply pipe 19 alternately to the upper end of the cylinder through a port 12, and to the lower end through ports 13, 12 and pipe 20. In the latter position, the upper end is open to exhaust through a groove 14 and a port 18. Exhaust ports 39, 41, 44 are provided. The tool-receiving sleeve 31 has a tapered opening to receive the tapered end of a tool, and is pressed upwards by a spring 32 to receive waste blows. The thickened lower part of the cap 10 and the tapered tool attachment are stated to minimize crystallization.
