Abstract

1,270,431. Preventing acoustic reaction. S. Z. M. GABR. 25 March, 1969 [4 Feb., 1969], No. 6009/69. Headings H4J and H4R. A casing supports a loudspeaker and microphone means so that sounds from the loudspeaker are radiated directly on to two sides of a diaphragm means. As shown a loudspeaking telephone includes a loudspeaker 20 which radiates directly and equally on to two diaphragms in microphones 22a and 22b. The two microphones are connected in opposition so that the signals received from the loudspeaker cancel. Sound to be transmitted is generated at a point 16. In a second embodiment a single diaphragm receives from the loudspeaker equal signals on opposite sides. In a further modification two microphones are arranged one in front of and one behind the loudspeaker diaphragm each being arranged to receive equal signals on opposite sides of their respective diaphragms. The two microphones are connected in opposition and combine acoustic and electrical cancellation of signals from the loudspeaker. In any of the above embodiments the loudspeaker and microphone or microphones operate alternately, switching being effected by electronic (e.g. transistor) circuitry.
