Abstract

1,270,427. Bookbinding. WESTAB Inc. 29 Oct., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 53042/69. Heading B6G. Machine for binding loose-leaves 24, Fig. 4, disposed between covers 22 and provided with sets of spaced perforations 25, using castellated wire ring elements 80, comprises a laterally inclined support 12, Fig. 2, along which the leaves and covers (books) 22, 24 are advanced in lateral registration with a guide rail 14 by a continuously moving chain conveyer 15 towards a toothed, ring element feeding belt 70 which is driven intermittently by a clutch and brake assembly 60 controlled by a photo-electric device 88 associated with a slotted disc 85 to scan the leading edge of the first perforation and also to actuate a cutter 55 to cut off an element 80 from a strip 30 when a counter (125, Fig. 5) has determined the number of perforations. The strip 30 is supplied from a motor driven roll (31, Fig. 1) to a guide rail 75, the severed elements being then pressed into the perforations 25 by synchronously driven rollers 100 and finally rotated in a helical groove in a guide 102 through 90 degrees and then closed in a manner described in Specification 1,133,153.
