Abstract

1329425 Loose-leaf binding machines J AGLAGHANIAN AND J DREVET 20 Nov 1970 [20 Nov 1969] 55386/70 Heading B6A A semi-automatic machine for binding perforated loose-leaves into loose-leaf binders using castellated wire elements 9, Fig. 2, includes a wire element dispensing unit 6, Fig. 1, a wire element conveyer 1, a wire element cutter 2, a wire element press 3 and a loose-leaf binder ejector device 4. The conveyer 1 is driven intermittently by increments corresponding to the length of severed wire element 9 using a Maltese Cross drive 5 through an interchangeable variable speed gear train 7 associated with a chain sprocket 16. The conveyer 1 is formed by links 7 which are guided in front of the cutter 2 by a rectilinear guide 15 and provided with spaced teeth 8 positively guiding the wire element 9 to press 3. The cutter 2 having an oscillatory cutter blade 23 is driven by a cam 21 and follower 22 and the wire element press 2 which is provided with stationary and movable jaw supports 29, 30, respectively is driven by a similar cam 35 and follower 34 assembly. The dispensing unit 6 is driven by a motor 43 under the control of a cam actuated micro-switch 44 and the motor 43 may be stepped by the wire element 9 touching a conductive plate 47 if the slack in the wire element 9 supplied to the conveyer 1 is too large. The bound loose-leaf binders whose wire elements 9 are still engaged by the teeth 8 of the conveyer links 7 are advanced into the ejector device 4 which is pivoted by a cam 42 and follower 41 assembly to disengage the binders from the links 7 and then eject them out of the machine when the device is pivoted downwardly in a clockwise direction.
