Abstract

1,269,108. Melded fibre fabrics. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 25 Nov., 1969 [26 Nov., 1968 (2)], No. 57568/69. Heading D1R. Continuous lengths of resilient matting comprises a plurality of looped continuous amorphous filaments which have a diameter of 0.1 to 1.5 mm., are formed of melt spun polymer, e.g. polyamides, and cross one another and are bonded together at the points where they cross. The mat may be of uniform density with the loops in the same orientation throughout the entire cross-section, or the loops in the lower layers may be horizontal whilst the layers of loops decrease in density toward the top and the upper layers lie in a plane at an angle of up to 90‹ to the horizontal. Alternatively the loops of the middle layers may lie at an angle to the outer horizontal layers. Equally spaced filaments 1-5 may be deposited directly into a water bath at 40‹C, or on to a plate 6 arranged to intersect the surface of the water at an angle of 10‹ to 80‹, the outer row of filaments 1 may contact the bath along the line where the bath meets the plate. The matting is drawn continuously through and from the bath. The base of the spinneret is 2-30 cm. from the surface of the bath. A roller may be used to exert a light pressure on the opposite side of the matting to that which contacts the plate. Light and heat stabiliser or pigment may be added to the polymer melt, and the mat may be impregnated with wax.
