Abstract

1,033,543. Trilobal filaments; spinnerets. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. May 3, 1965 [May 8, 1964], No. 19251/64. Heading B5B. Filaments having a trilobal cross-section with one convex and two concave sides are made by extruding a molten polymer through T-shaped orifices, cooling to solidify, winding on to a package, and cold-drawing to orient them. The filament may consist of one polymer, or may be a heterofilament comprising two or more polymers in adhering contact along the line of the filament in a side-by-side or sheath-and-core arrangement. The filaments may be employed in carpeting or upholstery fabrics.
