1,268,999. Planetary piston compressors. WANKEL G. m. b. H. and BORSIG G. m. b. H. Aug. 24, 1970 [Aug. 26, 1969], No.40605/70. Heading F1F. A planetary piston compressor comprising a stationary housing 1, Figs. 1 and 2, having a trochoidal inner peripheral wall 2, as shown epitrochoidal, and a piston 8 mounted for rotation on an eccentric 5d of an eccentric-carrying shaft 5 so that its axis performs a planetary movement as the piston rotates includes an inlet passage 3 opening through inlet openings 4 in the end walls of the housing and an outlet opening 9 in one or each of the piston flanks which sequentially cooperate through an opening 10 in the eccentric with a discharge passage in the eccentric and the eccentric-carrying shaft to impart a rotational movement of the fluid to reduce turbulence and reduce shock forces. Preferably the discharge passage is as large as possible and includes a spiral increasing in diameter towards the eccentric 5d. A tongue-shaped projection 17 defines a space 5e which does not lie in the path of the fluid-flow and provides a buffer chamber. Instead of the openings 9 being symmetrically arranged in the piston flanks as shown, they may be asymmetrical with the opening 10 correspondingly displaced so that the flow is tangentially directed to a greater extent. Nozzles for injecting cooling oil into the working chambers may be provided and may be arranged in the region of the axis of the epitrochoid. The cooling oil may simultaneously lubricate the sliding surfaces between the piston and the epitrochoidal wall 2 and seal the working chambers. The piston is balanced by counterweights 13, 14.
