Abstract

1,268,589. Escalator handrails. INVENTIO A.G. 26 June, 1970 [2 July, 1969], No. 31029/70. Heading B8A. A handrail for an escalator or pedestrian conveyer comprises a plurality of U cross-section elements 1 each having a U-shaped groove 1.11 at one end, a complementary projection 1.21 at the other end and abutment surfaces 1.12, 1.22. Spring clips 2 engage adjacent surfaces of adjacent elements to urge the abutment surfaces into contact and a pin 3 with heads 3.1 extends through holes 1.3 to secure adjacent elements together. The handrail is guided by a guide 4 engaging grooves 1.5 in the elements and is tensioned by a spring strip 5 extending between spaced ends 5.1, 5.2 of the guide 5 to engage grooves 1.6 in the element. The strip 5 is pretensioned by a spring 8. The lower edges of the elements are toothed to engage with a drive sprocket (10), Fig. 7 (not shown) or a toothed belt (11), Fig. 8 (not shown).
