Abstract

1,268,460. Abrasive wheels. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 26 March, 1970 [26 March, 1969], No. 14821/70. Heading B3D. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] An abrasive wheel is obtained by forming a rim comprising 6-35 vol. per cent of 50-200 Tyler grit size synthetic diamonds, which are coated with a barbed metal coating of average thickness 10-15% of the average linear dimension of the diamonds, the barbs being 0À3- 30 microns high and 0À3-30 microns wide at the base, the metal coating comprising 3 to 17À5 vol. per cent of the rim and 47-91 vol. per cent of a phase, at 50% of which is a coalesced aromatic polyimide of inherent viscosity at least 0À1, and then mounting the rim on a core, preferably of aluminium or aluminium-filled phenolformaldehyde resin.
