Abstract

1,268,371. Piston and piston rod packing. DOWTY SEALS Ltd. 21 April, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 21659/68. Headings F2B and F2T. The piston rod 2 (or the piston 2a) in a fluid operated jack or other device is sealed by a ring 5 which is loaded by a resilient member 9 and capable of moving bodily both axially and radially in its recess 3 against the resilient member, part of the ring abutting a wall 4 in the recess and another part extending axially beyond the wall where it engages the piston rod (or cylinder 1). As shown, the seal forms a wiper ring on the rod 2 and may be made of acetal resin or polyamide. The resilient member 9 may be in the form of a rubber O-ring.
