Abstract

1,268,154. Curing epoxy resins. SAN ABBOT Ltd. 25 June, 1970, No. 30988/70. Heading C3B. Epoxy resins are cured using as catalyst at least one N- (aminoalkyl) -lactam in which n = 2-11 and m = 2-6. I may be prepared in situ by hydrolysis of a diazabicycloalkene or an addition salt thereof with at least one molar equivalent of water. Typical II are 1,8- diaza - bicyclo - (5,4,0) - undecene - 7 and 1,5- diaza - bicycle - (4,3,0) - nonene - 5. From 5-20% by wt. (based on the epoxy resin) of catalyst may be used. The catalyst may also be used in conjunction with conventional epoxy resin hardeners, e.g. polycarboxylic acid anhydrides or polyamines. Curing may take place at 5-120‹ C.
