A brake lining comprises fillers bound with a binder comprising carbonized nitrile rubber. The composition may also contain other binders such as phenolic resins, carbonized neoprene and carbonized reclaim. The fillers include kaolin, iron powder, brass shavings, magnesia, iron sulphide and asbestos. '
