Abstract
PURPOSE: A friction material having improved heat and abrasion resistance and a stable coefficient of friction without causing noise and industrial hygienic problems due to the absence of asbestos, and containing a scaly material, a stratiform material and a binder as main materials.
CONSTITUTION: A friction material prepared by mixing (A) 20W60wt% scaly material or stratiform material, preferably mica, graphite, kaoline, vermiculite or chlorite, with (B) 5W30wt% phenol resin as a binder, (C) 5W30wt% metallic particles as a heat dissipating material, (D) 5W15wt% cashew dust as an abrasion- resistant material, (E) 5W10wt% barium sulfate, (F) 0W10wt% powdery or granular rubber as a friction coefficient adjusting material and (G) 0W5wt% fibrous material, e.g. asbestos, and molding the mixture.
USE: A brake lining for ordinary automobiles.
