Abstract

1,267,851. Fruit presses. STORK AMSTERDAM N.V. 27 March, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 16132/69. Heading B1D. [Also in Division A4] A fruit press comprises a housing 1 with an inlet 3 for fruit, a frusto-conical discharge member 10 at least partly closeable by a conical closing member 14 located adjacent member 10, and a reciprocable piston 4 for partly squeezing the fruit and for moving it towards member 10, the cross sectional area of member 14 transverse to the housing longitudinal axis, increasing in a direction away from the piston 4, members 10 and 14 being moveable towards each other along the said axis, and member 10 having a shape resulting in a decrease in volume between members 10 and 14 as they move together. Member 14 has a wall 15 with apertures 16 via which expressed fruit juice may pass to a channel 17. Member 1 is cylindrical and has apertures 2 for the egress of juice. A flange 18 of member 14 is connected to flanges 20, 21 of housing 1 by rods 19 which also support a flange 22 of a stationary hollow member 5. Piston 4 sealingly slides over member 5 and is connected by a yoke 7 to a piston 6 sealingly sliding inside member 5. Pressurised oil introduced between piston 4 and member 5 via a duct 8 causes piston 4 to move down. Pressurised oil introduced via a duct 8 between member 5 and piston 6 causes piston 4 to move upwards. The upper part of member 10 slides over the housing lower end. A frusto-conical lower extension of member 10 is inclined at a lesser angle to the housing axis than the conical surface of closing member 14. The member 10 may have apertures for the discharge of juice. Fruit is partly pressed by piston 4 and further pressed between members 10 and 14. Member 10 is forced down relative to the stationary member 14 by hydraulic cylinders 12a, 12b. The supply of pressurised oil via ducts 8, 9 and via ducts 13 to cylinders 12a, 12b is regulated by a time control device. Alternatively, member 10 and housing 1 may be held stationary and closing member 14 moved upwards by hydraulic cylinders or a lead screw drive system.
