Abstract
1,266,874. Prilling. FISONS Ltd. 27 Oct., 1969 [30 July, 1968; 11 April, 1969], Nos. 36273/68 and 18609/69. Heading B5A. Molten material is prilled by causing it to flow through the orifice of a cylindrical bore at such a rate that the nozzle streams and inducing pressure waves of a uniform frequency less than 200 cps. and harmonic-free in the material during its flow through the orifice and cooling the drops formed to a solid. The prilling head 14, Fig. 2, may comprise a base 15 having nozzles 16, tapered at their ends and surrounded by P.T.F.E. sleeves 17, an air vent 21, and an electromagnetic vibrator 20 acting through rod 19 to vibrate the plate 18 which is immersed in the molten material. As shown in Fig. 1, the molten material is fed through pipe 5 to a constant level weir 4 having an overflow pipe 6, and through pipe 3 to the prilling head 1, the droplets formed falling through column 2. Dust from hopper 10 is fed by screw 11 through pipe 9 and into the column by air from pipe 24 where it is formed into a fluidized bed by air from pipe 7. A dust-laden gas zone is formed by air from pipe 8, the dust being returned via pipe 13 and filter 12. The dust-coated particles are fed out through pipe 21 having a valve 23 to a cooler 22. The molten material to be prilled may be ammonium nitrate; ammonium sulphate; ammonium phosphate nitrate; mixtures of ammonium nitrate with mono- or diammonium phosphate, potassium chloride or magnesium oxide; potassium phosphate; potassium nitrate; sodium nitrate; urea or mixtures of urea with the above. The dust may be the material being prilled, limestone, sand, mica, bentonite, gypsum, talc, clays, fertilizers, e.g. phosphate rock, magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate, cement, earths, montmorillonite clays or micronized plastics.
