Abstract

126,685. Ellis, C. Feb. 10, 1917. Aromatic nitrohalogenhydrocarbons are prepared by nitrating aromatic halogenhydrocarbons with a mixture of nitrate and acid, such as sodium nitrate and' sulphuric acid. An example is given of the nitration of chlorbenzene to dinitrochlorbenzene; mononitrochlorbenzene may be prepared similarly. The nitrohalogen bodies obtained may be hydrolyzed to nitrophenols in the known manner. The dinitrochlorbenzene may be used in the manufacture of picric acid or sulphuretted dyes.
