Abstract

<PICT:0586012/IV/1> Dinitro secondary butyl-benzene prepared by dinitration of secondary butyl benzene is a mixture of isomers liquid at -25 DEG C. Dinitro tertiary butyl-benzene prepared by dinitration of tertiary butyl benzene is a solid melting at 62 DEG C. and having a tendency to super-cool. Dinitro-cumene prepared from the aromatic hydrocarbon by the conventional nitration processes, e.g. by the two-stage process (first to mono-nitro and then to dinitro) using mixtures of nitric acid and sulphuric acid, is a mixture of isomers solidifying at about 8 DEG C. Specifications 13373/12, 112,618, [both in Class 9 (ii)], and 579,275, [Group XXI], are referred to.
