Abstract
1,266,442. Rolling mills. SIEMAG SIEGENER MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. 22 April, 1969, No. 20418/69. Heading B3M. The chocks of a pair of work rolls in a rolling mill are stepped so that the chocks of one roll may rest on those of the other roll during roll changing but not during normal operation of the mill. The steps 9-12 of chocks 5 and 6 are normally arranged, Fig. 1, so that the roll can be adjusted until they contact each other, without the chocks touching. By moving the rolls apart and then shifting one roll axially, the steps 10 can be supported on the steps 11, Fig. 3, and the roll assemblies removed axially from the mill. In place of roll adjusting screws 7 and 8 balancing cylinders may be provided between the chocks, the cylinders being located in extensions of the roll housings (Fig. 5, not shown).
