A spray booth comprises blades 32 movable in unison within the rearward portion of the interior of the booth in a direction from the front of the booth to the rear thereof to promote rearward movement of air within the booth and means for moving the elements. The booth, used for electrostatic spraying is open at the front and has an extraction chamber 26 separated from the main part of the booth by an apertured wall 10. The blades 32 are fixed to spindles 34 which are rotatably mounted in a horizontal cross bar 36 which rests at its ends in horizontal rails 38. The upper surface of the cross bar 36 is attached to a rod 40 which is attached to a piston and cylinder driven trolley 44 (not shown) the rod moving in a slot 42. As the blades 32 move towards wall 10 their planes are parallel to wall 10 but as they near the wall they are turned through 90‹ which is the position they retain for the return movement. At the end of the return movement they are again rotated through 90‹ to the position shown in Fig. 1. The rotation of spindles 34 and blades 32 is produced by a rod 56 in the cross bar 36 (Fig. 3). A member 64 rigid with each spindle 34 and has a slot 62 which accommodates a peg 60 on the rod 56. The rod 56 has abutments 56 which at the limits of movement of the trolley strike fixed cam surfaces which move the rod 56 axially and hence turn the blades 32 through 90‹. The fixed article supporting rail 22 may be replaced by a conveyor which carries articles through apertures in the sides of the booth.
