Abstract

1,265,593. Corrugating tubes. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME KABELWERKE A.G. 13 May, 1970 [2 Aug., 1969], No. 23156/70. Heading B3E. In a method and an apparatus for corrugating tubes a wheel 2 carrying tools 3 on its periphery is rotatably mounted in a support 101, Fig. 4, which is rotatable about the axis of a tube 1 guided in spherical bearings 6a, 6b, Fig. 1, so as to be bendable in any plane so that stretching of the tube wall is avoided. Only one of the tools 3 engages the tube at a time and each tool has a concave tube engaging surface and is angularly adjustable with respect to the axis of wheel 2 so as to produce helical grooves of different pitches. Lubricant may be supplied through a conduit 22 to each tool or by means of a spray nozzle 23 carried by a counterweight 10 for the wheel 2. The wheel and counterweight are radially adjustable by means of a lead screw 8 operated by a motor 9. The working diameter of the wheel D w (twice the distance between the axis of wheel 2 and the centre of the concave surface of a tool 3) is given by the formula wherein S = distance between adjacent corrugations, t = depth of corrugations, r = radius of tool 3 and of the groove it produces transverse to the length of tool 3 and α the angle between adjacent tools, Fig. 3 (not shown). The radius of the concave surface of the tool 3 may be between 1À1 and 1À8 times the radius of the uncorrugated tube, Fig. 2 (not shown).
