Abstract

[Also in Division B5] A laminate suitable for use as a packaging material is made by applying adhesive to one face of a film 27 of regenerated cellulose coated with a vinylidene chloride polymer or copolymer by means of roll 35, passing the film through oven 37 to drive off solvents, applying a biaxially oriented film 25 of polypropylene to the adhesive face and passing through the nip of heated rolls 41, applying liquid, low temperature primer by means of roll 43 to the other face of the film, extruding ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer into a sheet 29 at 350-525‹ F. and passing the film and sheet between chilled rolls 47 and dusting with starch 51 to prevent sticking when taken up into rolls. The laminate 11 is used to wrap food products e.g. cheese by evacuation of air and/or introduction of inert gas to remove air and overlapping edges 15 and ends 18 of the wrapping are heat sealed to provide a hermetic sealing 15, 19.
