Abstract

1,265,313. Loom stop motions. NORTHROP WEAVING MACHINERY Ltd. 3 March, 1969 [2 March, 1968], No. 10273/68. Heading D1E. [Also in Division H3] A loom stop motion comprises means for comparing pulses indicating the time at which the shuttle passes a point on the sley with timing pulses generated, e.g. by means rotating with the loom crank shaft. Under normal conditions shuttle pulses and crankshaft pulses follow one another alternately, but if two like pulses succeed one another, the comparator immediately de-energizes a solenoid to operate the stop motion gear. The shuttle pulses are produced by passage of a magnet (26), Fig. 1 (not shown) in the shuttle past a pick-up (28) at the centre of the sley and the crankshaft pulses are produced by passage of a magnet (34), Fig. 2 (not shown) on a wheel (30) on the crankshaft past a pick-up (36) on the loom frame. The pulses are fed to a bistable electronic device A, Fig. 4 and comparators B, C, the device A being arranged so that it is set by a shuttle pulse and reset by a crankshaft pulse. The comparators B, C, compare the outputs of system A with the incoming pulses. If the correct alteration of signals is received no output appears at either comparator. If, however, two crankshaft pulses or two shuttle pulses succeed one another, system A is switched over and an output appears at comparator B or C respectively which is amplified at D and E and deenergises relay F to stop the loom. The stop rotor gear comprises brake and clutch discs 114, 112, Fig. 10 keyed to the loom shaft 108 and actuated by a slide block 128 connected to link 184 operated from a hand lever 130. To start the loom lever 130 is moved to the left, Fig. 6, and a stop thereon moves freely pivoted lever 134 anticlockwise to a dead centre position (152), Fig. 9 (not shown). Rod 142 rotates lever 146 clockwise to move catch member 156, Fig. 7, held in the engaging position by energisation of solenoid 162, downwards, a shoulder on which engages shoulder 180 to rotate lever 186 clockwise to a dead centre position in which spring 188 is compressed, an arm 182 of lever 186 simultaneously moving link 184 to engage clutch 144 will drive pulley 106 to start the loom. Lever 130 is returned to its original position by a spring and the parts 142, 146, 156, 186 and 184 remain held in their operative position due to the dead centre position of lever 134. If a "stop" condition is indicated by the comparator, solenoid 162 is de-energised to move catch 156 to left to release lever 186, whereupon spring 188 rapidly moves the linkage to the stop position in which member 184 disengages clutch 114 and engages brake 112 to stop the loom.
