Abstract

1,264,953. Sheets of expanded thermoplastic polymer. FISONS INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS Ltd. 25 July, 1969 [31 May, 1968], No. 26080/68. Headings C3C, C3P and C3R. A sheet of expanded thermoplastic polymer is made by perforating a sheet of the unexpanded polymer containing a blowing agent and subjecting the perforated sheet to a heat treatment to effect expansion. The polymer may be a polyamide, polyacrylate, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with a vinyl ester, vinylidene chloride, acrylic acid or styrene. The blowing agent may be azodicarbonamide, or p,p<SP>1</SP>-oxybis-(benzene sulphonyl hydrazide or semicarbazide). The unexpanded sheet may be expanded by passage through a hot air oven. The examples use a mixture of polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate, diboric lead phthalate and azodicarbonamide for forming expanded sheets.
