Abstract
1,264,856. Welding by fusion. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 24 April, 1969 [27 April, 1968], No. 20964/69. Heading B3R. In consumable wire electrode arc welding, wire contact pressure of wire feed rollers 11, 12 is produced by a spring which is adjustably prestressed, to vary the contact pressure, by selection of one of peripheral surfaces of a rotatable, eccentrically mounted, polygonal, e.g. as shown, hexagonal, prism 16 to provide a spring reaction abutment, and, to enable adjustment rotation of the prism with avoidance of wear, the prism is adapted to be lifted clear of the spring. As shown, the axes of electric motor driven rollers 11, 12 are respectively fixed and movable, the roller 12 being carried on a lever 14 pivoted at 15. A leaf spring 18 acting on the lever 14 reacts on a selected peripheral surface of the hexagonal prism 16. The latter is eccentrically rotatably mounted at 17 on a lever 19 which is upwardly swung to lift the prism clear of the spring. A further spring, not shown, may be provided to lift slightly the roller 12, in its unloaded condition, so that the wire may be pulled through the rollers or a new wire inserted.
