Abstract
1,264,357. Weighing apparatus. RELIANCE ELECTRIC CO. 10 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968; 23 Dec., 1968], No. 60378/69. Heading G4H. In apparatus for obtaining a load of a predetermined weight, e.g. 2875 units, in which a signal representing the weight on a scale 10 (Fig. 4) together with a preset signal e.g. 75 units is compared with a signal representing the required weight, at coincidence, i.e. when the scale has a load of e.g. 2800 units, the rate of feed of material to the scale is slowed down. As described the required weight is set up on selector switches (18, Fig. 2, not shown) to which are connected the outputs of counters 12, 13, 14, 15 connected to an analogue/digital converter 11 digitizing the weight on the scale 10. Initially a button 32 is pressed and the slider of a potentiometer 28 is operated until the required preset signal i.e. 75 in the embodiment described, is indicated on indicators 33. The button is then released and a second button 34 is pressed and the slider of potentiometer 29 is operated until a second preset signal representing the amount from the required weight e.g. 5 units at which the feed is to stop is indicated. Button 35, 36 are next sequentially operated to set up on potentiometers 30, 31 the amount of allowable under and over tolerance. In operation, the output of potentiometer 28 is first connected via switch 38 to the analogue/ digital converter 11 by a programmer 37 until the coincidence signal is generated to slow down the feed when the second potentiometer is switched in. At coincidence of the required weight and the sum of the input weight and the output of potentiometer 29 the feed is stopped and the output of the third potentiometer 30 is added in to the converter. With an under tolerance of 3 units, provided at least 2872 units are on the scale i.e. with at least an output of 2875 units from the converter a coincidence circuit (Fig. 3, not shown) is operative to generate a cutoff signal 23. If this signal is not generated an error light is lit. The fourth potentiometer 31 is then switched in and with an over tolerance allowance of 3 units if more than 2878 units are on the scale the coincidence circuit will still generate an output and an error light is lit. If no coincidence signal is generated at this time the value of the load on the scale is printed. The apparatus may be modified to weigh several successive ingredients (Fig. 5, not shown).
