Abstract
832,514. Electric selective signalling systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 16, 1956, No. 15256/56. Class 40 (1). In a digital to analogue converter comprising a plurality of voltage sources respectively representing each digit of a digital input number expressed in a form having a radix greater than 2, the voltage sources are provided by separate secondary windings 3 of a common transformer 1 and are graded in accordance with the radix. Separate switching means 5 are associated with each secondary winding and are controlled by mechanical linkages 8 through a digital storage unit 9 which is manually or electrically-operated in accordance with digital control signals from a source 10. The switches 5 are movable in steps to select an appropriate tapping on each of the secondary windings to represent the numerical values of the respective digits and the resultant output voltage across terminals 6, 7, is applied to an output circuit 11. The apparatus may be arranged to give an indication when the input digital signal is greater than a given amount, e.g. when the input signal is greater than the highest number which the apparatus can handle.
