Abstract
1,264,308. Photo-conductive element. AGFAGEVAERT. 6 June, 1969 [17 June, 1968; 12 Nov., 1968], Nos. 28778/68 and 53677/68. Heading H1K. [Also in Division G2] A photo-conductive water-permeable recording layer contains dispersed hydrophilic particles and one or more hydrophilic colloids. The hydrophilic particles are preferably photoconductive, e.g. ZnO, ZnS, TiO 2 , PbO, Pb 3 O 4 , Cr 2 O 3 or CdS, or photo - conductive pigments such as Vat Yellow 2, Pigment Red 48 or 49, or Vat Orange 3. Alternatively the hydrophilic particles may comprise non-photo-conductive pigments, e.g. carbon black, BaSO 4 or metal oxide particles, surrounded by photo-conductive dyes, e.g. acridine, thiazine or xanthene dyes. The layer may contain hygroscopic substances, e.g. sorbitol, ethylene glycol, LiCl, KBr, NaCl, Na 2 SO 4 or lead acetate, and light-absorbing pigments, e.g. carbon black, prussian blue, metal carbonates, Fe 2 O 3 , CdS, manganese oxide, finely divided Ag, Bi, Pb, Fe, Co or Ni or sensitizing dyes. Plasticizers, fillers, e.g. silica, and wetting agents may also be incorporated. Hydrophilic binders such as casein, gelatine, animal glue and hydroxyethyl cellulose may be used. The composition may be coated on a support of paper, glass, fibre board, cardboard, cellulose ester, polystyrene, polyester, aluminium oxide, a wire screen or woven textile, to give an electrophotographic element.
