1,264,287. Thiocarbonates. AZOTE ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES S.A. 2 Sept., 1970 [8 Sept., 1969], No. 42045/70. Heading C2C. Thiocarbonic compounds of general formula ROCOS.CR 1 R 2 .CN wherein R is an optionally branched alkyl group, R 1 represents H and R 2 represents H or a C 1-5 linear alkyl group, are made by reacting an alkali metal alkyl thio carbonate (ROCOSM) with a halonitrile in a polar organic solvent at 50‹ C. or less. The products display insecticidal and fungicidal activity. In Example 7 sodium n-lauryl thiocarbonate was prepared by reacting sulphur oxychloride with the product obtained by reaction of lauric alcohol and sodium in anhydrous toluene.
