Abstract

1,264,031. Phenolic resin compositions. BECK KOLLER & CO. (ENGLAND) Ltd. 3 April, 1969 [11 April, 1968], No. 17454/69. Headings C3N and C3R. A curable composition suitable for preparing foundry moulds comprises (i) sand, (ii) a phenolaldehyde condensate prepared in an aqueous alkaline medium and (iii) a polymerization product of a monomer containing terminal ethylenic unsaturation, the weight ratio of (ii) to (iii) being between 1:19 and 19: 1. Component (ii) may be a liquid phenol-formaldehyde resin. Component (iii) may be a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. Components (ii) and (iii) may be mixed with an antifoaming agent to form a binder which is added to a premix comprising the sand, a cereal and water.
