Abstract

1,264,030. Attaching mattress handles. CONVEX Ltd. 2 April, 1969, No. 17344/69. Heading B4C. Apparatus for attaching handles 10 having end portions 10a formed with vent holes 12 and provided with pronged fasteners 18, 20 to a matress border material, comprises a pair of upper dies 28 movable from the position of Fig. 1 to that of Fig. 4 to cause the prongs 20 of each fastener to engage a lower die 30 and be bent around a retaining ring 22. Spring biased clamps 52 are moved together with the upper dies 28 to engage the mattress border material whilst a handle is being attached. Simultaneously a pair of rotary cutters 32 are moved from their initial position (Fig. 1) by a pneumatic cylinder 40 to cut holes in the border material located adjacent the ends of the handle. After the clamps, upper dies and cutters have been retracted a take up drum 16 moves the material and the lower dies are moved in respective channels to a position in which retaining rings are fed into the grooves in the lower dies. The lower dies are then moved back to their operative positions. A further handle is fed by means not shown to a position above the material and the operation is repeated.
