Abstract

1,263,557. Expansion bolt. A. FISCHER. 12 May, 1969 [8 June, 1968; 2 July, 1968; 30 Nov., 1968], No. 24030/69. Heading F2H. An expansion bolt comprises a male shank 3 and a female sleeve 8 formed with co-operable conical portions of different conicities, the conical portion of the shank being screwthreaded so that, in use, rotation of the shank causes the sleeve to expand. The sleeve may be slit longitudinally, preferably along its full length, and have means to prevent rotation initially which may be longitudinal ribs 12 as in Fig. 1, or tongues 21 as in Fig. 2 (not shown) extending longitudinally towards the bolt head. The sleeve may have a cylindrical bore 10 at its inner end, or may have a portion there whose cross-section is rectangular, oval, triangular or ribbed. The sleeve may be of aluminium or zinc alloy. The threads on the bolt comprise flanks 7 at right angles to the bolt axis forming a sawtoothed thread. The bolt may have a hexagonal headed end 4 or a screw threaded one. The bolt may be capable of engaging the sleeve to a limited extent e.g. by the provision of a quarter turn of a thread for ease of transport etc. A compressible stop 14 may be interposed between the bolt head 4 and workpiece 13, the stop collapsing as the bolt is tightened, and the thickness of the stop being equal to the desired axial movement of the bolt into the sleeve. The stop may be of synthetic plastic and may serve as a washer or gasket after tightening of the bolt. The stop may be integral with the bolt.
