Abstract

1,263,488. Papermaking. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA FABRIK A.G. 26 June, 1969 [29 June, 1968], No. 32354/69. Headings D2A and D2B. In the production of bonded non-wovens from textile fibres by the wet method, a binder polymer is deposited on the fibres with the aid of a water-soluble cationic polycondensate prepared from carbamide, formaldehyde, dicyandiamide and a salt of ammonia or of an amine. The fibres may be of cellulose, cellulose derivative, polyamide, polyester or polyacrylonitrile. The carbamide may have one or two alkyl substituents or be unsubstituted, the amine may be a mono- or di-alkylamine or a mono-, di-, or tri-alkanolamine. The binder polymer may be of an acrylic or methacrylic ester with carboxyl groups, e.g. derived from 1 to 10% of an unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid. Other monomers may also be used, e.g. vinyl-aromatics, vinyl halides, vinyl esters, amides and nitriles of unsaturated acids, and vinyl-sulphonic acids. Other binder polymers are of vinyl chloride, vinylidine chloride, or vinyl esters, or are copolymers of butadiene with styrene or acrylonitrile. In the Examples: (1) fibres of polycaprolactam are suspended in water with an addition of an oxyethylated fatty alcohol, the polycondensation product of Example 1 of German Specification 1,078,768, a solution of resin soap in water and an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of n-butyl acrylate, acrylic acid, N-methylolacrylamide and acrylonitrile is stirred in, and the slurry sheeted out; (2) a mixture of polycaprolactam fibres, xanthate rayon fibres and beech sulphite cellulose is suspended in water, the same additives stirred in as in Example 1, and the slurry sheeted out.
