A conduit of constant cross-sectional are comprises an upstream pipe 1, a curved portion 9, the wall 8 defining the concavity of which approaches towards the opposite wall in the direction of flow, and a conversion member 10 connecting the curved portion 9 to a downstream pipe 2, the inner wall 12 of the conversion member diverging away from its opposite wall in the direction of flow. As shown, the upstream 1 and downstream 2 pipes are of circular section, the conversion member 10 has a straight profile 12, and both the conversion member and the curved portion 9 are enlarged perpendicular to the plane of Fig. 2 to maintain the constant cross-sectional area; in a further example, Fig. 6 (not shown), the conduit consists of elements of circular cross-section, those forming the curved portion (15) and conversion member (16) being of larger radius but having partitions (17) to define the fluid passageway along the concavity of the bend and thus maintain a constant crosssectional area, the space unoccupied by the active stream being filled with a compact material.
