A circuit for controlling currents in power leads 1110-1140 and 1210-1240 of an apparatus 1 in accordance with signals stored in store 3 comprises a switching circuit consisting of an array of thyristors 511-514 and 521-524 each connected to one of the power leads, first and second power sources 20, 21, the first being connected with the mains and the second is connected between the apparatus 1 and the thyristors, a counter 4 the outputs of which are energized in turn and connected to gates 611- 614 and 621-624 controlling the thyristors, the other inputs to the gates being from the store, the store and the counter being interconnected and controlled by signals from the apparatus 1 to select the sequence in which the thyristors are fired, mains voltage from source 20 being applied to selected power leads through the fired thyristors by a further signal from the apparatus thereby to effect a sequence of operations of the apparatus. When a signal 1010 is provided from the apparatus 1 auxiliary power source 21 provides a positive voltage on the thyristors through load resistors 711-714 and 721-724. At the same time a signal 1030 initiates operation of the control circuit by causing store 3 to give sequential data outputs on lines 3100 and 3200 controlling the two groups of gates. After each output a signal on lead 3300 advances the counter to select the next column of gates.
