Abstract
1,263,018. Wet separation of impurities from zeolites. NORTON CO. 20 Oct., 1970 [27 Oct., 1969], No. 49763/70. Heading B2H. Molecular sieve zeolite ore, e.g. ferrierite, chabasite or mordenite, is upgraded by being agitated in a mixture of an aqueous liquid phase and an immisable organic liquid having a specific gravity greater than the aqueous liquid phase but less than 2.3, the mixture after agitation being allowed to settle and the beneficiated zeolite being recovered from the aqueous phase. The aqueous phase may contain dissolved salts or miscible organic liquids such as alcohols or glycols. Soluble salts may be added to the aqueous phase and an ion-exchange reaction may be combined with the beneficiation process to produce, for example, an ammonium, hydrogen or silver exchanged zeolite by employing ammonium salts, acids or silver salts in the aqueous phase. Organic liquids specified are carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and bromoform. Examples of the process are given.
