Abstract
1,262,493. Thin layer chromatography. PYE UNICAM Ltd. 8 June, 1970 [11 June, 1969], No. 29493/69. Heading B1X. A sample is applied along a circular path to the thin layer coating 14 on circular plate 10 by the self-explanatory means shown in Fig. 3. The streaked plate 10 is then inverted in the manner indicated in Fig. 4 so that circumferential gauze 24 dips into eluent trough 33 and conveys eluent by capillary action to the periphery of plate 10. Eluent then passes inwardly developing the chromatogram. As the fractions arrive at the central orifice 12 of plate 10 they are sucked off through line 46 by means of pump 47 for detection or collection at 48. If desired, annular chambers 35-39 may be supplied with different solvents. A suitable device for applying the sorbent coating 14 to plate 10 is also described (see Fig. 1, not shown). This consists of a table (21) having a circular orifice (20) of the same size as plate 10, the table being adjustable so as to stand proud of plate 10 by the coating thickness desired. Slurry is then applied to plate 10 and a spreader (23) is then drawn across the table and plate, which is then removed and dried.
