Abstract

[Also in Division G2] An optical transmission and focusing system comprises a fibre optic bundle 1 having at one end a face 2 for receiving radiation and at the other end an elongated face 3 for emitting radiation wherein radiation from a lamp 4 e.g. quartz/ halogen or mercury vapour may be focused on to the face 2 and the radiation emitted is converged, by in the direction of the spread of the exit surface 3 to give at least two spots of radiation. As shown a coherent fibre optic bundle with a concave inlet face 2 is used to direct radiation via a plurality of lenses 9 on to deflecting mirrors 7 each of which former part of a galvanometer, the deflected beam then returns through 9 and via cylindrical lens 10 which converges the beam in a direction perpendicular to the previous lens so giving at least two intense spots 11 on the photosensitive surface 12, continuously driven over roller 13 from a lower spool (not shown). The deflecting mirror 7 responds to signals applied to the coil of the galvanometer thus giving a transverse movement of the spot 11 on the recording medium.
