Abstract
1,261,588. Tubular heat exchangers. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 22 May, 1969 [27 May, 1968], No. 26121/69. Heading F4S. A tubular heat exchanger comprises an elongated rigid shell 30 and a bundle of flexible tubes T of a solid polymeric composition having open portions at each end, which portions lie in a substantially co-planar arrangement and which are sealed in fluid-tight relationship both with one another and also with an annular rigid header FHM. The outer peripheral portion of the header is resiliently supported and sealed by engagement in a recess 41 in a second header 32 by an annular elastomeric seal and support ring R1 mounted in a shoulder or reduced portion 13 of the header FHM at the intersection of outer end surface with the peripheral, surface of the header FHM. A further annular elastomeric seal ring R2 engages the peripheral surface 11 of the header FHM, a tapered portion TP of the recess 41 in the: header 32 and one side of a split ring 42 mounted between opposed flanges 34, 33 of the shell 30 and header 32. A rigid foraminous sleeve 14 surrounds and engages the periphery of the tube bundle and is secured at each end in operative engagement with the headers FHM, and an annular baffle element (not shown) is secured to the sleeve 14 intermediate its ends, the baffle having an external peripheral portion of elastomeric material constructed and arranged to engage the interior surface of shell 30.
